Arts group will salute Schaefer, General Assembly

April 29, 1991

GOVERNOR William Donald Schaefer and the Maryland General Assembly will be honored by Maryland Citizens for the Arts Inc., the statewide advocacy group, in a special program, "Arts Salute", on Monday, May 20, at Center Stage.

The "Arts Salute" reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a visual arts exhibit. Tribute performances from arts organizations across the state will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.

The reason for the celebration is the 10 percent increase in Maryland State Arts Council funding instigated by Gov. Schaefer and the General Assembly. Awards will be presented to Gov. Schaefer, Senate President Thomas V.(Mike) Miller and House Speaker R. Clayton Mitchell Jr. immediately after the performance.

Performers from the following arts organizations will participate: Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, Annapolis Brass Quintet, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Tom Casciero of Young Audiences, Mt. Nebo Gospel Chorus (Prince George's County), Academy of Arts (Easton), Maryland Art Place, the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Easton.

Admission is free but must be reserved by writing to Anne South, Executive Director, Maryland Citizens for the Arts, 3000 Chestnut St., Suite 304, Baltimore, Md. 21211.
