Here's what to look out for if you're traveling in the Baltimore metropolitan area this week, based on information from state and local highway agencies and the Mass Transit Administration. The list of highway projects includes only newly announced work, not ongoing construction, which is currently extensive on several highways, including I-95, U.S. 50/301 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

New highway projects

Pratt Street at Howard Street closed until 5 a.m. April 29. Northbound motorists will be directed east on Pratt, north on Hanover Street, west on Lombard Street, then north to Howard.

Fayette Street from Hopkins Plaza to Paca Street closed until 5 a.m. April 29. Motorists will be directed west on Fayette, south on Hopkins Place, west on Lombard Street, north on Paca to Fayette.

Light-rail construction

* Eastbound Mulberry Street at Park Avenue reduced to one lane due to construction.

* Dolphin Street between Howard Street and Mount Royal Avenue now one-way westbound. Traffic coming from south via Martin Luther King Boulevard destined for northbound Jones Falls Expressway continues east to Chase Street, east on Chase to Cathedral Street, then north at the 1100 block of Cathedral to Mount Royal Avenue and the expressway.

Bus route changes

The MTA has scheduled the following changes in bus routes for this week. For more information, call 539-5000; TTY for the hearing-impaired, 539-3497.

Light-rail construction

Nos. 1 (northbound), 2 (westbound), 5 (northbound), 8 University of Maryland Transit Center (southbound), 20 (westbound), 35 (westbound), 36 (southbound) and 91 (northbound) -- Effective until 5 a.m. tomorrow and again at 7 p.m. Friday, continuing until 5 a.m. Monday. Fayette Street at Howard Street will be closed for construction of the future Central Light Rail Line. Bus lines will travel via regular route westbound on Fayette to Liberty Street, south on Liberty, south on Hopkins Place, west on Lombard Street, north on Eutaw Street to Fayette, then via regular route.

No. 160 -- Until further notice, the temporary route will be changed due to light-rail construction in the area of Pratt and Howard streets. Eastbound, via present temporary route to Pratt and Howard, east on Pratt, south on Sharp Street, west on Conway Street, south on Interstate 395, then via regular route.

Nos. 1 (southbound), 2 (eastbound), 5 (southbound), 8 University of Maryland Transit Center (northbound), 11 (northbound), 20 (eastbound), 35 (eastbound), 36 (northbound) and 91 (southbound) -- Effective at 7 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday and again at midnight next Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday, May 13, Baltimore Street at Howard Street will be closed for light-rail construction. Buses on the No. 1 line will travel via regular route eastbound on Baltimore to Eutaw Street, south on Eutaw, east on Pratt Street, south on Light Street, then via regular route. For all other bus lines listed above, via regular route to Baltimore and Eutaw, south on Eutaw, east on Pratt, north on Charles Street to Baltimore, then via regular route.

Flower Mart

The annual Flower Mart Wednesday necessitates the following diversions:

Nos. 3, 9, 11, 31, 310, 311, 410 and 411 (northbound services); Nos. 18 and 26 (southbound services) -- Between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., buses will operate north on Calvert Street between Centre and Chase streets instead of Charles Street.

No. 220 -- From 6 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.-6 p.m., northbound buses will operate on Light and Calvert streets between Conway and Centre streets instead of Charles.

No. 1 -- From 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m., northbound buses will operate on Conway, I-395, Howard Street, Lombard Street, Eutaw Street, and Fayette Street instead of Charles and Fayette.

No. 3 -- From 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., southbound buses will operate to Camden Street behind Festival Hall only, and not to the Inner Harbor. Northbound service will originate at Festival Hall and operate on Pratt and Calvert between the Inner Harbor and Chase instead of Charles.

No. 31 -- From 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m., northbound buses will operate north on Calvert between Pratt and Chase instead of Charles.

No. 11 -- From 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m., northbound buses will operate north on Calvert between Baltimore and Chase instead of Charles.

Towsontowne Spring Festival

The Towsontowne Spring Festival necessitates the following diversions for the Nos. 8 and 55 lines from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and for the No. 8 from noon until 8 p.m. next Sunday.

No. 8 -- For Towson Service, northbound via regular route, westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue to York Road, north on York, west on Allegheny Avenue, south on Bosley Avenue to the layover on Chesapeake Avenue. Southbound, from the layover on Bosley at Chesapeake, south on Bosley, east on Towson Bypass, south on York, then via regular route. For Stella Maris bTC Service and Eudowood Service, southbound via regular route westbound on Allegheny to Washington Avenue, west on Allegheny, south on Bosley, east on the Towson Bypass, south on York, then via regular route.

No. 55 -- Westbound, via regular route on Allegheny to Washington, west on Allegheny, south on Bosley, east on Burke Avenue, south on York, then via regular route. Eastbound, via regular route northbound on York to Burke, west on Burke, north on Bosley, east on Allegheny, east on Joppa Road, then via regular route.
