Baseball Cleveland Indians -- Placed SS Felix Fermin (strained calf muscle; .125 in 11 games) on 15-day DL, retroactive to Tuesday. Purchased contract of SS Mark Lewis (No. 1 pick in June 1988 draft; .431 in 13 games) from Class AAA Colorado Springs.

Detroit Tigers -- Placed OF Lloyd Moseby (bruised right heel) on 15-day DL, retroactive to Tuesday. Called up P Mark Leiter from Class AAA Toledo.

Kansas City Royals -- Agreed to 1-year contract with OF Terry Puhl (.281 BA in 14 seasons). Placed 1B George Brett (.170 in 47 AB; partial tear of medial collateral ligament in right knee) on 15-day DL.

San Francisco Giants -- Optioned C Kirt Manwaring (1-for-1) to Class AAA Phoenix. Purchased contract of IF-OF Darnell Coles from Phoenix.

Texas Rangers -- Extended player-development contract with rookie league Butte.

Basketball Orlando Magic -- Signed F Jerry Reynolds (12.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg), who could have become unrestricted free agent, to 4-year contract expected to earn him about $1.6 million a season.

Phoenix Suns -- Gave G Dan Majerle (13.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.8 apg) 3-year extension. Club said yearly salary will be equal to that of G Jeff Hornacek, who has 7-year, $12 million contract.

College Middle Atlantic Conference -- Will add Upsala, Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison and King's, Pa., to football schedule in 1993, The (Bethlehem, Pa.) Globe-Times reported.

Radford -- Named Dick Bender (native of Grantsville; 1986 graduate of Western Maryland) and Byron Samuels men's assistant basketball coaches.

Southern Cal -- Football coach Larry Smith suspended freshman S Howard Earl McCowan and freshman CB Marcel Lamont Brown, who were arrested for investigation of a series of robberies and a kidnap charge.

Football Detroit Lions -- Signed DB Bobby Futrell.

Miami Dolphins -- Signed QB Chris Stablein, WR Richard Buchanon, WR Joel Taylor, OL Darren Handy, OL Blaine Rose, LB Clifford Champ, LB Kevin Pearson, S Michael Iaquaniello and DE Steve Berg.

New England Patriots -- QB Marc Wilson retired after 10-year career, including 8 with Los Angeles Raiders. Signed TE Ben Coates.

New York Jets -- Agreed to terms with WR Peter Balistrieri, WR Reggie Moore and T Kip Beach.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Signed DL Garry Howe, DB Kevin Smith and RB Dan Walsh.

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed RB Doug DuBose (out of football 2 years while recovering from cocaine problems) and QB Ralph Martini (San Jose State) as free agents.

Seattle Seahawks -- Agreed to terms with coach Chuck Knox (165-105-1 in 19 years as head coach) on 2-year contract extension. At end of each season, Knox and club can decide whether they would like to continue relationship. Invited to camp FB Chris McLemore, WR Nick Mazzoli, DL Mark Moore, DE Martin Hochertz, DB Doug Craig, DB Aaron Ruffin, G Turnell Sims and HB Stacy Danley.

Washington Redskins -- Signed following free agents: Baylor DT Reggie Howard (career 23 tackles for loss), Stanford WR Walter Batson (50 catches for 843 yards in career; Academic All-American) and Rutgers TE James Jenkins (31 catches for 325 yards last season; team MVP).

Golf Kemper Open -- Announced that Ben Crenshaw, Mark O'Meara and Andy Bean have indicated they will play in tournament, May 27-June 2 at TPC at Avenel in Potomac.
