The Chesapeake Men's Senior Baseball League begins its third season on Sunday at Joe Cannon Stadium in Harmans.
The CMSBL is affiliated with the Men's Senior Baseball League, for men primarily between the ages of 30 and 45, which originated in 1986.
From its four-team beginning in 1989, the county league expanded to six teams in 1990. This season, eight teams, involving 120 players, will play a 20-game schedule.
The four charter members are the 1989 champion Annapolis Mariners, the defending champion Glen Burnie Giants, the Severna Park Cardinals and the Arnold Angels (now the Athletics).
The 1990 expansion teams were the Pasadena Rangers (now Pirates) and the Crofton Tigers (now the Fort Meade Cubs). The Lake Shore Red Sox and Broadneck Dodgers have been added for the 1991 season.
Many former major-leaguers, such as Orlando Cepeda, Luis Tiant, Rico Carty, Jose Cardenal, Bill Lee, Lowell Palmer and Jim Barr are playing in the MSBL.
The majority of CMSBL games will be played at Cannon Stadium, with other games being played at Broadneck and SevernaPark high schools, Kinder Park in Severna Park and Love Point Park on Kent Island.
