Pehlke sets Virginia scoring record No. 4 Cavaliers beat Hofstra, 18-10

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — HEMSPTEAD, N.Y. -- Kevin Pehlke (Calvert Hall) scored five goals to break Virginia's single-season scoring record and lead the fourth-ranked Cavaliers (9-2) to an 18-10 win over Hofstra (4-5) yesterday in men's college lacrosse. Pehlke's 39 goals this season breaks the previous record of 37 set by Chase Monroe (Gilman) in 1988.

Virginia dominated the first quarter, as five different scorers gave the Cavaliers a 5-1 lead at the end of the period. In the second quarter, Hofstra answered with two goals by Dom DiNardo and one by Mike Laudenslager, to make the score 5-4.

Pehlke scored three goals, and DiNardo and Joe Barra added one each for Hofstra, making the score 8-6 at the end of the first half.

After halftime, Virginia took control of the game, opening the third quarter with five unanswered goals, and outscoring the Flying Dutchmen, 10-4, in the second half.

DiNardo finished with five goals to lead Hofstra, and Andy Kraus added three goals for Virginia, which outshot Hofstra, 53-39.
