Services for Arthur Schwartz, a marketing research manager for a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Illinois and former Pikesville resident, will be held at 9 a.m. today at the Levinson funeral establishment, 6010 Reisterstown Road.

Mr. Schwartz, 34, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., died at his home Thursday after a five-month battle with leukemia.

He was born in Pikesville, where he attended Milford Mill Senior High School. He received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Maryland in 1979. He earned master's degrees in business and marketing from Loyola College and the University of Baltimore. In 1987, he received his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Maryland.

He was a marketing research manager for the international division of G. D. Searle & Co. in Illinois.

Mr. Schwartz had been a teaching research assistant at the University of Maryland, an assistant professor at the University of Baltimore and a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

He was nominated to Who's Who in the Midwest in 1988 and was named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. He was active in many civic and professional organizations, including the American Pharmaceutical Association, Alpha Zeta Omega and the American Marketing Association.

Mr. Schwartz is survived by his wife, Karen, and a son, Aaron, both of Buffalo Grove; his parents, Joseph and Brylene Schwartz of Baltimore; and a sister, JoAnne Aboussouan of Cleveland, Ohio.

The family suggested contributions to the Arthur Schwartz Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, 20 N. Pine St., Baltimore 21201.
