Former D.C. star Moten considers Terps

April 18, 1991

The Maryland basketball program, which hasn't had the best of spring signing periods, may get a boost this weekend as a prominent recruit considers joining the Terps next fall.

Lawrence Moten, a 6-foot-5 1/2 forward from Washington's Archbishop Carroll High, told the Journal newspapers that he will decide over the weekend whether to sign with Maryland or with Syracuse.

Moten, who averaged 28 points and 10 rebounds per game in his senior year at Carroll, enrolled last year at a prep school in New Hampshire to bring his grades and SAT scores to required minimums.

Moten committed to Syracuse last year, but is reconsidering his decision in the wake of an NCAA investigation into alleged recruiting violations at Syracuse.
