Baseball National League -- Suspended Cincinnati Reds P Rob Dibble 3 games for throwing at Houston Astros SS Eric Yelding. Suspended Yelding 1 game for charging mound. Both have appealed.

Houston Astros -- Placed P Mike Scott (0-2, 12.86 ERA; rotator-cuff tendinitis) on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 14. Called up P Jim Corsi from Class AAA Tucson.

Oakland Athletics -- Placed SS Walt Weiss on 15-day DL.

San Francisco Giants -- Optioned P Eric Gunderson (0-0, 5.40 ERA, 1 save in 2 appearances) and SS Mike Benjamin (.048) to Class AAA Phoenix. Activated P Kelly Downs and SS Jose Uribe from DL.


Denver Nuggets -- Announced that extra bones were surgically removed from feet of G Chris Jackson and that G Michael Adams, suffering from cold and stiff neck, went into hospital for battery of tests.


Columbus Horizon (CBA) -- Named Vince Chickerella coach.


Catawba -- Named Tom Harper Jr. defensive line coach.

Colorado State -- Announced Tim Jankovich, men's associate basketball coach, and Fred Litzenberger, men's volunteer basketball coach, will not be retained.

East Texas State -- Announced they will not renew contract of Jerry Matthews, men's basketball coach.

L Fort Hays State -- Named Gary Garner men's basketball coach.

L Jacksonville -- Named Matt Kilcullen men's basketball coach.

Lehigh -- Announced its women's soccer team will compete in Patriot League as Division I team in 1991-92 school year. Named Dan Baranik football receivers coach.

Norfolk State -- Named Michael Bernard men's basketball coach.

I= St. Louis -- Named Sharon Allen women's basketball coach.


Denver Broncos -- Announced that backup QB Gary Kubiak career 159-for-271 for 1,742 yards) will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair ruptured disk in lower back. Kubiak isn't expected to play until after start of season.


Kemper Open -- Lanny Wadkins, Hale Irwin, Corey Pavin and Tom Kite indicated they will play in tournament, which will begin

May 27 at TPC at Avenel in Potomac.


Montreal Canadiens -- Called up D Sean Hill from Fredericton AHL). Hill replaced Lyle Odelein, who is serving 1-game suspension.


USTA Player Development Program -- Rodney Harmon, coordinator of United States Tennis Association Clincians Service, has been appointed full-time coach.
