Roxanna Byrd White Kieffer, a former feature writer for the Hagerstown Herald and The Sun, died Friday at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 93.
Services for Mrs. Kieffer were being held today at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Annapolis. Burial is in Rosehill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
She was the widow of John S. Kieffer, former president of St. John's College.
At The Sun, she collaborated with photographer A. Aubrey Bodine.
Born in Frederick, Mrs. Kieffer attended Frederick Female Seminary, the forerunner of Hood College.
The Kieffers were married in 1929 and moved to Annapolis when Dr. Kieffer joined the St. John's faculty. Eight years later, he helped found the college's "Great Books Program," in which students read world literature as the basis of the curriculum.
