* Marine Pfc. Michael A. VanVleck, son of Richard VanVleck of Taneytown, recently reported for duty with Headquarter Battalion, Headquarters, Marine Corps, Arlington, Va.

A 1989 graduate of Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School, Bradley, Ill., he joined the Marine Corps in May 1990.

* Several countians have completed recruit training at their respective Recruit Training Command centers.

During the eight-week training cycle, the naval recruits studied general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic and on-the-job training inone of the Navy's 85 basic fields.

Studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who completethis course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in physical education and hygiene.

Navy Seaman Recruit Marcel Y. Hill, daughter of James G. and Kathryn S. J. Hill of Union Bridge, has completed training in Orlando, Fla.

A 1988 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, Hill joined the Navy in November 1990.

Navy Seaman Recruits Shawn P. Flanary and Robert E. Box completed training in Great Lakes, Ill.

Flanary, son of Albert L. and Cathy L. Turner of Sykesville, is a 1990 graduate of Liberty High.
