Ailey Repertory Ensemble to tour state

The Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre will begin its monthlong Maryland residency Saturday with a week of performances around the state by the troupe's Repertory Ensemble.

The rep -- the company's acclaimed junior troupe -- will appear Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Queen Anne's County High School auditorium. Tickets are $12, $5 for seniors and students. A master class for a limited number of students will be held at 11 a.m.; the cost of the class is $10. Call (301) 643-4020.

Other dates on the Repertory Ensemble's schedule are:

* April 22-23, 10 a.m. and noon, Publick Playhouse, 5445 Landover Road, Hyattsville. Tickets are $2. Call (301) 277-1710.

* April 24, 8:15 p.m., Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Princess Anne. Admission is free. Call (301) 651-2200, Ext. 267.

* April 25, 7 p.m., Maggs Gymnasium, Salisbury State University. Tickets are $3, $1 seniors and students. Call (301) 543-6353.

* April 27-28, Howard County Center for the Arts, Ellicott City. Tickets for the April 27 performance -- a benefit for the show's presenter, Kinetics Dance Theatre, that will be followed by a dinner-dance, are $50; the April 28 performance is sold out. Master classes will be held both days from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; the cost is $12 for adults and $10 for teens. Call 461-9907.

In addition to the appearances by the Repertory Ensemble, members of the main company, which performed for three nights at the Mechanic Theatre in February, will appear at more than three dozen schools around the state from April 30 to May 16.

Dance concert

The Peabody Preparatory Spring Dance Concert, dedicated this year to the late Wendy Robinson, will be held Saturday at 8:15 p.m. and April 21 at 3 p.m. at Friedberg Hall. The concert in tribute to Ms. Robinson, the longtime doyenne of classical ballet here who died earlier this year, will be highlighted by "No Pasaran!", a 20-minute dance-theater piece by Carol Bartlett, the prep's artistic director.

The Maryland Renaissance Festival will hold auditions for a variety of roles Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. Auditions are by appointment only. Call (800) 243-7304.
