COLUMBIA — County police are investigating a robbery that occurred Thursday at The Mall in Columbia when a woman's purse was yanked away by a man.
Police said the woman, a Columbia resident, was standing outside the Hecht's store of the mall waiting for a ride at 9:30 p.m. when the man ran up to her and grabbed the purse. After a brief struggle, the shoulder strap broke and the man ran off, police said.
The victim saw the man get into a nearby car with another unidentified person and the two then drove from the area, police said. The purse contained an undisclosed sum of money.
Police said the woman was not injured.
FOUR ARE ARRESTED IN RESTAURANT BREAK-IN
Four Laurel-area residents were arrested on burglary charges Friday morning in connection with a break-in at the Bottom of the Bay seafood restaurant in Laurel, county police said.
An officer spotted the four standing near the restaurant, in the 9500 block of North Laurel Road, atapproximately 1:30 a.m. The group ran from the area when they saw the officer, police said.
Police said the suspects left behind several boxes that apparently were taken from the restaurant, which had been entered through the roof.
The boxes contained $150 in cash and about $450 worth of food, liquor and cigarettes, police said.
Fourpeople were arrested less than two hours later in another section ofLaurel. Each was charged with burglary.
Arrested were two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, and two 18-year-olds, Steven R. White and Larry E. Smith.
Police said White and Smith live in the Laurel area, but officers did not release their addresses.
The two juveniles were released to the custody of their parents, and White was released on bail.
Smith remains at the Howard County Detention Center on $6,000 bond.

4000 block Zuni Court: April 3, a 1990 Honda Accord was reported stolen at 3 a.m. The car was later recovered in Baltimore aftera brief chase. A suspect ran away before police could arrest him.
10200 block Blandford Way: April 2, a 1986 Toyota Camry was stolen during the evening from a residential area.
4600 block Leisure Court: March 29, jewelry and electronic equipment were reported stolen at4 p.m. from a home.
