Belmoe On The Saratoga

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory W. Belmoe, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Belmoe of Jessup, recently reported for duty aboard the USS Saratoga, based in Mayport, Fla.

Belmoe joined the Navy in July 1978.


Marine 1st Lt. David James, son of Sandra Fusee of Ellicott City,was recently designated a naval aviator, earning his "Wings of Gold"after 18 months of flight training.

James, a 1982 graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School, is a 1987 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, with a bachelor of science degree.


Navy Midshipman Andrew Smith, a 1988 graduate of Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City was awarded an academic star whileserving with the Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps unit at Villanova University.

The criteria for earning the award is based on an overall grade-point average greater than 3.0, or a semester GPA greater than 3.5.


Army Cpl. Lloyd Gaither III, son of Elizabeth Mott of Columbia, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force cable-splicing specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.

The soldier is a 1984 graduate of Hammond High School.


Pvt. Eric Lange, son of Allan Lange of Columbia, has completed training at the U.S. Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus,Ga.

Instruction included weapons qualifications, tactics, patrolling, land mine warfare and field and combat operations.
