Meade's boys lacrosse team improved its record to 4-1 Thursday by capturing the championship of the Cape Henlopen Quick Sticks Lacrosse Tournament in Lewes, Del.
The Mustangs trounced Glasgow (Del.) in the opening round, 16-3. Brendan Mahoney (two assists) and Matt Coyne (one assist) led the winners with three goals each. Mike Hurtz (one assist), Mike Ogden, and Carlos Acaron added two goals each, while Nate Carter and David Bernier contributed single goals.
In the semifinal matchup, Meade nipped Unionville (Pa.), 6-5, as Hurtz and Mahoney took team-high honors with two goals each. Acaron, Ogden, and Randy Reinecke chipped in with one goal apiece. TournamentMost Valuable Player Fred Powell (39 saves in three games) stopped 17 shots on goal.
