Incaviglia trade reportedly in works

Notes

March 27, 1991

The Texas Rangers are trying to trade outfielder Pete $H Incaviglia to make room for another player on their roster, The Dallas Morning News reported yesterday.

Last year, he became the first Rangers player with five consecutive 20-homer seasons, but he also has the major leagues' second-highest strikeout total (788) in that span.

* BRAVES: Outfielder Lonnie Smith will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today to repair cartilage damage.

* PIRATES: All-Star outfielder Bobby Bonilla rejected Pittsburgh's latest contract offer, an unusual four-year deal that essentially would have allowed him to become a free agent after any season.

* DODGERS: Right-hander Tim Belcher will start Opening Day, April 9 against the Braves.
