PHILADELPHIA -- Kerry Bascom scored 22 points, and Connecticut connected on seven of eight free throws in the last 1 minute, 9 seconds, beating Clemson, 60-57, yesterday for the National Collegiate Athletic Association women's East Regional title and its first Final Four berth.
The Huskies (29-4) move on to New Orleans, where they will meet the winner of last night's Virginia-Lamar Midwest Regional final.
Two free throws by Meghan Pattyson with 31 seconds left gave Connecticut a 57-51 lead. Kerry Boyatt hit a three-pointer for the Lady Tigers (22-11) before Wendy Davis connected on two foul shots for Connecticut with 12 seconds remaining.
Angie Peters' three-pointer narrowed the gap to 59-57 with six seconds left. With three seconds to play, Pattyson made the first of two free throws, but she missed the second, leaving Clemson trailing by three.
The ball was knocked around, and Clemson could only get off a desperation three-point shot at the buzzer that didn't come near the basket.
