Head coach: Lou Norbeck (second season)

Assistants: Carl Hertz, Todd Merrill and Scott Coffeil

1990 record: 4-10

Returnees: Seniors, Brendan Mahoney (att), Fred Powell (g), Drew Barone (mid), Tom Hafler (def) and Steve Miller (def); juniors, Mike Fabyanic (def), Dimitri Marinsek (def), Nate Carter (mid), Carlos Acaron (att) and Mike Hertz (att); sophomore, Mike Ogden (att)

9 Newcomers: Sophomores, Matt Coyne (att-mid), Matt Rayman (att-mid) and Mike Walker (att-mid)

Coach's outlook: "So far, we look pretty good on defense. Fred Powell is one of the best goalies around. Our downfall may be at midfield -- we're covering up for some injuries by putting in some young faces. Nonetheless, I'm still excited about the season. Everyone has great attitudes, and we're improving with each day. I'm very pleased with our progress. I'm looking for Fabyanic, Walker and Rayman to be my leaders on the field."

Anne Arundel County Sun's outlook: Norbeck's troops are very young indeed, and injuries to key players Mahoney and Coyne don't help the situation -- thank goodness for All-County goalkeeper candidate Powell. Meade faces its toughest challenge in the beginning of April, when it will play host to South River, North County, Annapolis and Southern. After facing these four playoff contenders, a .500 season would be a major accomplishment for the Mustangs.
