Head coach: Greg Carroll (14th season)

Assistant: Dave Moorehead

1990 record: 8-4, tied Southern and Andover for county 3A/2A/1A league title

Returnees: Seniors, Brian McElhenny (mid), Troy Smith (mid), Chance Hall (def) and Mike Layden (def); juniors, Matt Czoka (att), Kevin Collison (att), Chris Messineo (mid), Jake Cameron (mid),Trevor Perkins (def) and Chris Asher (def); sophomore, Adam Keller (att)

Newcomers: Senior, Bob Stanger (g); juniors, K. C. Palmer (def), Lonnie Schreffler (def), Sam Diaz (def), Ryan Mansur (def), Adam Cizek (def) and Mike Dougherty (g)

Coach's outlook: "We lost abouthalf a dozen starters to graduation and that leaves our defense veryinexperienced. We've scrimmaged once already, and it showed that improving defensively has to be our main crux. Our attack is coming around, but I think the midfielders are showing the most experience."

Anne Arundel County Sun's outlook: With unproven defense and an offense still in its developing stages, it looks like the Seahawks' midfield will be a workhorse unit during the first few games. Coach Carrollneeds time for returning top scorer Czoka (32 goals) and the rest ofthe attack to "come around." Another question mark is in goal, whereDougherty and Stanger are in a heated battle to start. Either playerwill have a sturdy defense in front of him with Perkins, Hall and Asher leading the way. South River again should contend for the 3A/2A league title but will have it tougher in the 4A/3A regionals.
