'91 Boys Lacrosse Preview/the Teams, The Coaches, The Players

Aberdeen Eagles

March 24, 1991

Coach: Dick Slutzky, fifth season.

Assistants: Tom Evans, Tom Geise, Andy Casali.

Last year's record: 2-8.

Starters lost: 5.

Top returnees: Justin Crothers, sr., M; Chad Rizzuto, sr., M; Salvatore Gasdia, sr., D; Jim Evans, jr., G; Frank Davidson, sr., A; Norman Mayano, sr., A; Pete D'Amico, so., M/A; Shannon Gerst, sr., A.

Newcomers: Eric Ratcliff, sr., D; T. J. Wimes, sr., D.

Coach's outlook: The good newsis we have some real talent; the bad news is there's not enough depth of it. Other teams can put in another midfield or attack, but we don't have that luxury. We can play with them for six, eight, 10 minutes at a time, then we run out of gas.

Harford County Sun's outlook:The Eagles have the same problems that they've had in years past. Without a recreational feeder system, a junior varsity program or consistency in coaching, the Eagles won't be able to compete with the county's top teams. Slutzky is simply doing his part to keep the program from dying, but there are indications that it could be turning around. For the first time, the Eagles will field a jv team giving the young players a chance to get on the field and develop skills. Right now,the Eagles only top-notch players are Crothers and Rizzuto. Most of the others have played more than one position. Evans will play in thegoal for the first time while Davidson makes the conversion from goalie to attackman. However, with a weaker schedule this year, the Eagles should be able to improve on last year's record by a game or two.
