Election law set

CARROLL CAPSULE

March 24, 1991

WESTMINSTER - The city Council is expected to pass an ordinance tomorrow that will pave the way for additional election judges for May's municipal elections,

Earlier this month, the council passed a required amendment to the City Charter empowering the mayor to add election judges to serve at the city's sole polling location, the Volunteer Fire Co. on Main Street.

The council must also pass the ordinance, which was introduced at the March 11 council meeting, which allows for more judges.

Mayor W. Benjamin Brown originally pressed for a second polling location, as well as additional election judges, arguing that a streamlined voter registration procedure would lead to a crush of voters at the firehouse on Election Day. But the council agreed only to more judges.

Among other business scheduled for tomorrow's meeting, the council is expected to award a contract for water and sewer extension projects on West Main Street and Route 140.

The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
