Cleveland Indians -- Waived OF Alan Cockrell (.330 for Class AAA Colorado Springs).

Detroit Tigers -- Sent P Jose Ramos outright to Class AA London. Sent OF Curt Ford (.111 in 18 at-bats with Philadelphia Phillies) to minor-league camp for assignment.

New York Mets -- Sent IF Kevin Baez (.167 in 12 at-bats) to minor-league camp for assigment.

San Francisco Giants -- Optioned P Johnny Ard to Class AAA Phoenix.

Seattle Mariners -- Claimed OF Alan Cockrell on waivers and optioned him to Class AAA Calgary. Optioned P Mike Gardiner (0-2, 10.66), P Brian Givens, P Brent Knackert (1-1, 6.51), P Dave Richards, P Clint Zavaras and IF Frank Bolick to Class AAA Calgary. NCAA -- Awarded East Regional semifinals and regional finals of 1992 NCAA women's tournament to the University of Virginia. Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth were only schools in the region to bid for the event.

ouston Oilers -- Agreed to terms with LB Rick Graf, Plan B free agent left unprotected by Miami Dolphins.

Los Angeles Rams -- Signed CB Rodney Thomas (27 tackles), Plan B free agent left unprotected by Miami Dolphins.

Hockey

NHL -- Gave St. Louis Blues' Kelly Chase and Chicago Blackhawks' Mike Peluso automatic 10-game suspensions for leaving the bench to join fight March 17; suspended St. Louis D Scott Stevens 2 games for his altercation with Chicago's Dave Manson; and fined Chicago coach Mike Keenan $5,000; fined St. Louis coach Brian Sutter $2,500 (Keenan was fined more because he sent players onto ice just before a brawl). Fined Peluso, Manson, Steve Larmer, Stu Grimson, Trent Yawney and Michel Goulet of Chicago and Chase, Stevens, Harold Snepsts, Glen Featherstone, Darrin Kimble and Rod Brind'Amour of St. Louis, $100. The 10-game suspensions will carry into playoffs.
