USGA -- Confirmed that reason for withdrawal of Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., as host of 1994 U.S. Women's Open was that club would not promise to have minority members by then. Tournament will be played at Indianwood Golf Club in Lake Orion, Mich.

Hockey

Hartford Whalers -- Returned G Ross McKay to Springfield (AHL) after he made NHL debut Sunday, making 12 saves on 15 shots in 6-1 loss.

Vancouver Canucks -- G Troy Gamble, who suffered his fourth concussion of the season Tuesday when he took a shot in the face mask during practice, will be out 1 week. Signed D Troy Neumeier, 10th-round choice in 1990 entry draft from Prince Albert, Alberta.
