Best actor: Kevin Costner

March 21, 1991

Kevin Costner has racked up yet another award of sorts for ''Dances With Wolves.'' Evening Sun readers and callers to Lou Cedrone's SUNDIAL Oscar Line make Costner the clear favorite to win Monday night's Academy Award for Best Actor of 1990. Costner's story of a Civil War soldier who wants to see the frontier before it's too late is up for 12 Oscars.

Coster received 69 of the 122 votes cast, or 57 percent of the total.

Robert De Niro (''Awakenings'') was second with 25 percent, followed by Jeremy Irons (''Reversal of Fortune'') with 14 percent, Richard Harris (''The Field'') with 4 percent and Gerard Depardieu ("Cyrano de Bergerac"), who received no votes at all. ''The Field'' has not yet played here, and ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' is playing only at the Charles Theater.

Nearly everyone who answered Lou's trivia question (101 out of 110) knew that De Niro's previous Best Actor Oscar was for his portrayal of boxer Jake LaMotta in ''Raging Bull.''

There is still time to enter ''You vs. Lou,'' our fourth annual Academy Awards contest, which gives you a chance to outperform a professional movie critic in predicting the winners. An entry form is on Page C6 in today's Accent Plus.

Entries must be postmarked no later than Sunday, March 24.

Lou's choices in the contest's 10 categories will be published in Monday's Accent. Lou correctly predicted six out of the 10 last year.

TOMORROW: Results of the telephone poll on Best Picture.
