Channel 13 picks Gail Bending as on-air manager

March 18, 1991|By David Zurawik

Gail Bending has been named the director of news, public affairs and special programs at WJZ-TV (Channel 13).

Bending, 33, replaces Tim Morrissey, who resigned two weeks ago after only seven months on the job. Morrissey left to take over as news director for New York Times Broadcasting.

Bending's title at Channel 13 will be on-air manager, which means she will be in charge of public affairs and special programs, as well as news, a station spokesman said yesterday. Bending has been news manager at Channel 13 since June.

Bending earned a B.S. from Towson State University in 1979. She joined Channel 13 in 1987 after eight years in news management at WMAR-TV (Channel 2).

Channel 13 has Baltimore's highest-rated newscasts at 6 p.m and 11 p.m., with an estimated audience of 167,000 TV households at 6 and 130,000 households at 11, according to Arbitron.
