Panetta leads Hopkins to 13-5 win over Rutgers Senior attackman scores four goals

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Senior attackman Matt Panetta score four goals, and Brendan Cody added three yesterday, as No. 8 Johns Hopkins defeated Rutgers, 13-5.

The Blue Jays (2-1) jumped out to a 5-3 lead 3 minutes, 2 seconds into the third quarter on goals by Cody and Jeff Wills, but two Scarlet Knights goals tied the game with 7:59 left in the third quarter. Charlie Speno and Brian Lukascz scored the last two goals of the quarter to give Hopkins a 7-5 advantage.

The fourth quarter was all Hopkins, as Panetta's three goals and Cody's two led a 6-0 run to secure the victory.

Scott Giardina shut down Rutgers (1-2) with 10 saves, and John Schmunk stopped six shots for Rutgers.

Senior midfielder Seth Tierney scored two goals and had two assists for Hopkins.

Hopkins will travel to Syracuse to face the No. 6 Orangemen Saturday at 2 p.m.
