Pehlke paces No. 1 Virginia past Duke

DURHAM, N.C. -- Kevin Pehlke scored four goals and tw assists, as top-ranked Virginia (4-0, 1-0) defeated Duke (2-2, 0-2), 14-10, in an Atlantic Coast Conference men's lacrosse game.

Virginia trailed, 3-2, after the first quarter, but rallied for six unanswered goals in the second period to take control of the game.

Andy Krauss, Perry Frazer and Gabby Roe each added two goals, and Rob Falk had three assists for the Cavaliers.

Duke was led by David Aherne's three goals and Joe Mattassa's two.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- John Webster's four goals led No. 2 North Carolina (4-0) over Adelphi. The Tar Heels led throughout, jumping out to 6-2 first quarter lead.

Carolina also got solid performances from Craig Hasslinger, Michael Thomas, Dennis Goldstein and Steve Speers, each of whom scored two goals.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Senior Dennis Nealon scored four goals, including the game-winner with 3 minutes, 19 seconds to go, as Navy edged Pennsylvania.

The Midshipmen, now 1-2 on the season, scored two goals in each period and held the Quakers scoreless for 15:30 in the first half and for the entire third period.

Navy led 6-4 after the third period but the Quakers (0-1) tied the game, 7-7, with 3:50 remaining as Rick Curi connected after a feed from Devin Beresheim. Nealon put in the game-winner just 31 seconds later on a feed from Gardner Smith in an extra-man situation.
