A Celebration Of Nature By Yolanda Garfield

March 17, 1991

WINTER'S LINGERING CHILL WILL SOON BE RE- placed by a verdant spring. This year, balmy weather invites us outdoors into an age of sensitivity to conservation issues. In response to those issues landscape architects and pool designers are creating spaces that are easier on the environment as well as the eye.

In the designs shown on the following pages, homeowners and designers worked together to select only those finishing materials that enhance the natural look, ranging from river rocks to redwood. Wherever possible, trees were conserved, and meadowlands were planted with wildflowers and exotic grasses. a result, the pools and landscapes have in common a natural, informal elegance. Each one fits into the nature around it. And nature, rather than being disguised, ignored or destroyed, is being celebrated at last.
