Link not to be missing in Fla. Derby

HALLANDALE, Fla. -- If trainer Howie Tesher decides to race Link in the Florida Derby -- and it appears he will -- he doesn't expect Fly So Free trainer Scotty Schulhofer to bat an eyelid. Yawn maybe.

"Scotty shouldn't lose any sleep over me," Tesher said. "My horse is so small, he really should be running at Hollywood Greyhound Track in the matinee that day."

Fly So Free has scared off all but a handful of 3-year-olds for Saturday's Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. Aside from Jackie Wackie -- the Calder 3-year-old who has finished first in nine consecutive races -- the other expected starters are light on credentials.

Link, for one, has won three times -- two more than Strike the Gold or Shoot to Kill -- but has not finished better than third in a stakes.

The prospect of a short field is one of the reasons Tesher is likely to try out his colt in the major prep for the Kentucky Derby.
