Baltimore Orioles -- Agreed to terms with P Gregg Olson (6-5, 2.42 ERA, 37 saves) on 1-year contract worth $505,000. Renewed contracts of 1B/OF Randy Milligan (.265, 20 HRs, 60 RBI) for $330,000, raise of $175,000, and OF Mike Devereaux (.240, 12, 49) for $210,000, raise of $65,000.

Houston Astros -- Agreed to terms with P Pete Harnisch (11-11, 4.34 with Orioles) on 1-year contract.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Sent P Syeve Karsay, P David Weathers and C Jason Townley to minor-league camp for reassignment.


East Carolina -- Fired Mike Steele (48-68 in four seasons), men's basketball coach.


NBA -- Fined Phoenix Suns F Tom Chambers $2,500 for throwing punch at Kevin Willis of the Atlanta Hawks on March 7.


Kansas City Chiefs -- Announced retirement of C Mike Webster.

New York Jets -- Signed CB Mike Brim and LB Bruce Holmes.


NHL -- Suspended Los Angeles Kings D Marty McSorley for three games because of an incident involving Winnipeg Jets D Doug Evans on March 2. McSorley's suspension will start March 18 unless club notifies the NHL within 24 hours that it waives right of appeal.
