City needs help with Preakness and Columbus celebrations

CURRENT volunteers' news and needs:

Baltimore Office of Promotion wants volunteers to help with activities such as the Preakness Celebration Parade on May 10, the Mayor's Christopher Columbus Parade in October and the New Year's Eve extravaganza. Volunteers must be 18 or over who can work evenings and weekends. Call Reno Manning, 752-8632.

St. Agnes Hospital wants high school students for its Junior Volunteer Program. Training classes will be held March 29 and April 1 and 2. For details, call Diane Erman, 368-2816.

Harbor Hospital Center wants volunteers to transport patients being discharged from the hospital. Call Ann Heil, 347-3478.

American Red Cross will be holding courses for infant and child CPR and for geriatric aide and nursing assistants during April. For complete details, call 764-4609.

Maryland Lupus Foundation is holding a meeting for patients and their families at noon April 6 at Good Samaritan Hospital and at the Black Mental Health Alliance on Druid Park Drive at 7 p.m. April 23. Call 366-7272 for details.

Baltimore Association For Retarded Citizens Inc. wants volunteers as tutors, advocates or friends to people with developmental disabilities. Call 323-5600.

Johns Hopkins Hospital, allergy division, wants men and women between ages 18 and 65 for a two and half month study. Those who have asthma but require only occasional medication and are otherwise in good health will be required to make 11 visits and will be paid $150 for screening for two visits and $600 for the nine visits.
