DuVal advances to final, 71-52 Class 3A girls basketball

Third-seeded DuVal of Prince George's County advanced to the Class 3A state final with a 71-52 victory over second-seeded Northern of Calvert County, in a semifinal game last night at Catonsville Community College.

DuVal (22-3), ranked No. 9 by The Washington Post, will face the winner of the Oakland Mills-Catonsville contest in the championship game, tomorrow at 8 p.m.

The Tigers outscored Northern (20-5), ranked No. 20 by the Post, 43-18, in the second half, to overcome a 34-28 halftime deficit.

Cheri Douglas scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half. August Kenner added 16 and Corinda Davis 13.

Northern was led by 17 from Shanda Jones, but was held to only one point in the second half. Anna Gibbs and Kristin Kruse each added 10.
