COLLEGE PARK -- Parkdale's decision to run with Annapolis ended in a high-scoring loss Dec. 6. It was a different story last night, as fourth-seeded Parkdale played more conservatively and knocked No. 1 and defending champion Annapolis from the state 4A tournament with a 62-60 victory.
Irvin Church's free throws with six seconds to play boosted Parkdale into tomorrow's 9 p.m. final against third-seeded Springbrook (18-4) at Cole Field House. The Blue Devils were 72-67 winners over second-seeded Quince Orchard (18-5) in last night's other semifinal.
Church's free throws came after Annapolis erased a 59-51 deficit in the last 5 minutes, 36 seconds and tied the game at 60 on Rob Wooster's three-point goal with 23 seconds to play. Parkdale then ran the clock down to six seconds before Church was fouled by Delmore Howard.
