Herrmann gets new Navy pact

March 06, 1991|By Doug Brown

When Navy joins the Patriot League next fall, Pete Herrmann will still be the Middies' basketball coach.

Despite a five-year record of 57-88, Herrmann was given a new contract yesterday. Neither he nor athletic director Jack Lengyel would disclose the contract's terms, including its duration. Herrmann did say he was "pleased" with it.

Navy's Patriot League opponents will be Fordham, Colgate, Holy Cross, Army, Lafayette, Lehigh and Bucknell. The Middies played their final Colonial Athletic Association game Sunday, losing to George Mason in overtime in the tournament semifinals.

In the first round, Navy, seeded No. 8, stunned No. 1 James Madison in overtime in what may have been the highlight of the post-David Robinson period. In the last four years, without Robinson, Navy has compiled a 31-82 record, including an 8-21 mark this season.
