NEW WINDSOR — The lagging economy forced Craft World International Inc. to lay off33 workers last week, the personnel director said.
The company, which distributes craft and needle-art items, had employed 220 people, said Nancy K. Spindler.
Most of the laid off were management workers, but some were from the rank and file, she said. The layoffs were effective last Friday.
"Because of recessionary conditions throughout the country, which have affected our company's business, in order to down-size our company, we were unfortunately faced with the necessity of an immediate reduction in force," she said in a statement.
