Businesses Strut Stuff At The Fair

WESTMINSTER — Businesses will meet the public Friday and Saturday at the annual Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Business Fair.

The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. both days at Cranberry Mall, Route 140 and Center Street.

Sixty-three businesses will have booths at the seventh annual event, said Helen Utz, executive director of the chamber.

Stu's MusicShop on Route 140 in Westminster will provide entertainment for the crowd both nights, said co-owner Don Myers.

At 7 p.m. Friday, children who take lessons at the shop will perform at "Stu's Talent Night," he said.

About 20 students playing band instruments, piano and guitar have signed up to perform, Myers said.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Doris Barnes, a pianist from Westminster, will lead the crowd in a sing-along, he said.

The shop will provide song sheets for "Tie a Yellow Ribbon," "Take Me Home Country Road," "You are My Sunshine" and other songs, including a patriotic medley, Myers said.

Both eventswill be near the music shop's booth near Caldor, he said.

Thirteen businesses will have booths for the first time at the fair, Utz said.

They are: Melvin A. Arbaugh-Architect Inc., A Room at a Time, Buck Industries Inc., Carroll Water Systems, Coldwell Banker C.D. Associates and Jenkins Insurance Associates Inc.

Also, Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc., Northwest Contractor's Inc., Polar Windows, TBT Insurance, The Investment Center, Wakefield Valley Golf Club Inc. and Woodland Signs.

The county YMCA, library, hospital and government also will have booths, along with The Carroll County Sun.

Utz said the fair will be "the best mall show yet."

Last year, 55 booths were available.

In addition to exhibits, businesses will have demonstrations,door prizes and gifts to give away during the weekend.

Businessesare not allowed to sell merchandise during the fair.

Some mall merchants will run special promotions during the fair.

The event is chaired by Kathy Brown, owner of A Room at a Time, an interior designcompany in Westminster.
