A north Baltimore County man was fatally shot early yesterday in the apartment of two people in the 200 block of St. David Court in Cockeysville, Baltimore County police reported today.

Police have no motive, and no charges have been filed in the case. Police said they want to talk with a woman who went to police in a town in Massachusetts yesterday to report the shooting.

The victim, Robert Earl Taylor, 33, of the 20000 block of Valley Mill Road in Freeland, died on the floor of the living room of a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators initially said the death was "questionable" but today determined it was a homicide.

Police received a call at 2:20 a.m. yesterday from a relative of a 36-year-old man who lives at the St. David Court apartment.

When police arrived, they found the victim and the man in the apartment. They recovered a large-caliber handgun, believed to have been used in the shooting.

In questioning the man, who was later released, they also learned that a 23-year-old woman, who also lived at the apartment, had left just after the shooting.

About 6 p.m., county police received a call from police in Topsfield, Mass., just north of Boston, saying a woman had come to their station and told of a shooting on St. David Court.

County police have asked to question the woman, who is being held in Topsfield on two failure-to-appear warrants in Massachusetts. County police hoped to question her in Massachusetts.

Police also questioned other residents of the building, who told of hearing noises about two hours before police arrived.
