A Mass of Christian burial for Charles F. Brown, a retired Baltimore police sergeant and appraiser for the Orphans' Court in Baltimore County, was offered yesterday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Towson.
Mr. Brown died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital of complications from a broken hip. He was 89.
He retired nearly 15 years ago after working as an appraiser of estates for the Orphans' Court.
He retired in 1946 from the Baltimore Police Department after 25 years on the force.
While a police officer, he also was a successful athlete, winning 25 bouts as a left-handed amateur middleweight, pitching and playing third base on a baseball team and running track.
