Rarick leads LPGA Kemper by 2

March 02, 1991

OJAI, CALIF. WAILEA, HAWAII — WAILEA, Hawaii -- Cindy Rarick made a birdie here and a birdie there to finish with a 2-under-par 69 yesterday and hold a two-stroke lead entering the final round of the LPGA Kemper Open.

Rarick, who has led throughout, hasn't blistered the Wailea Resort Blue Course on Maui Island, but has played deliberate golf while most contenders have failed to make a move or have fallen back.

Third-round victims included defending champion Beth Daniel, whose triple bogey on No. 7 dropped her from second place back into the pack.

Rarick was at 10-under 203. Deb Richard made the strongest move, shooting a 67, and was 8-under.

Jane Geddes and Dawn Coe were 6-under. Three-time champion Betsy King was 5-under.

OJAI, Calif. -- Heavy rains forced postponement of the first round. The event will be cut to 36 holes, with the field playing 18 holes today and the final round tomorrow.
