Oakland Mills gains semifinal Boys basketball

Caruthers Gant scored a game-high 32 points, as visiting Oakland Mills won the Class 3A, Region I title with a 76-68 defeat of Thomas Johnson (16-5) last night.

Mark Terry scored 18 and Greg Washington added 13 for Oakland Mills (17-7).

Rojak West led Thomas Johnson with 24 points.

Oakland Mills will play in a Class 3A state semifinal Thursday at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House.

Kevin Hockady scored 19 and Kilo Mack added 12, as host Joppatowne (18-4) downed Kent (12-11), 51-46, in the Class 1A, Region III championship. Joppatowne, who led 40-27 at the end of the third period, held off a fourth-quarter run by Kent to take the Region III title.

L The Mariners advanced to Friday's Class 1A state semifinals.

Forrestville (20-4) eliminated Northeast (16-8), 60-51, in the Class 2A, Region II final at Prince George's Community College. Northeast made nine three-pointers, five by Steve Strauss (19 points). Gene Pleyo added 16 points for Northeast.

Forrestville advances to the Class 2A state semifinals at Cole Field House Friday.

Despite a 27-point performance from Albert Smith, visiting Dulaney (16-6) fell to Quince Orchard (19-4), 66-50, in the Class 4A, Region I final.

Quince Orchard outscored the Lions, 36-18, in the second half to capture the victory.
