JOHNS HOPKINS * Coach: Tony Seaman, first year at Johns Hopkins (13-3 in one year at C.W. Post; 74-37 in eight years at Penn).
* 1990 record: 6-5.
* Key returnees: Attackmen Matt Panetta and Jeff Wills; midfielders Seth Tierney, Adam Wright, Brian Lukacz and faceoff specialist Steve Vecchione; defensemen Bill Dwan and Brian Voelker.
* Key newcomers: Attackmen Brian Piccola and Alex Wadkovsky; midfielders Brendan Cody, Steve Coffey, Todd Cavallaro and Brad Medd.
* Comment: One of Seaman's concerns is finding a replacement for Quint Kessenich in the goal. The main candidates are juniors Scott Giardina and Ian Hobbs. The anchors on defense are Dwan and Voelker, both captains, while the midfield leader is Tierney, the third captain. The Blue Jays' 1990 goal-scoring leaders -- Panetta (20), Wills and Wright (both 19) -- are back, although Panetta is nursing a separated shoulder. Noting that last year's team, by Hopkins' standards, struggled, Seaman said, "The tradition and confidence that are necessary to succeed are already here. The most difficult challenge may be for us to live up to our own expectations."
