Budget crunch

It's your call

February 26, 1991

State tax revenues have fallen far below estimates, creating a shortfall that officials say will extend into next year. To balance the budget, officials are faced with cutting aid to the counties, laying off state workers, raising taxes or a combination of those actions.

We'd like to know what action you would put at the top of the list. Would you choose first to cut aid to counties, lay off state workers, raise taxes or take some other action?

Share your opinion with us by calling SUNDIAL. The call is local and must be made from a Touch-Tone phone. Dial 783-1800 or, in Anne Arundel County, 268-7736. When you reach SUNDIAL, enter category 4600 and wait for instructions from the announcer. Call with your opinion between 10 a.m. and midnight. The results will be published tomorrow.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
