Ymca Site Passes Test

February 24, 1991

WESTMINSTER — Officials at the YMCA have withdrawn a request for a sewer hookup into the city's system, Mayor W. Benjamin Brown announced Thursday.

County officials recently found soil that can sustain a private septic system at the building site on Route 32 near Route 97.

The private system will be a less expensive alternative for the organization. Applicants must bear all costs to tie into the city system, said the mayor.

"I want to stress the need to get the YMCA functioning," said Brown. "This is the only organization in the county which sponsors affordable family recreation."

The mayor also displayed a flag, donated to the city by Phyllis Roop Smith. The white banner, decorated with a large yellow bow, reads, "We Support You."

The city flew the flag at the patriotic rally Saturday. It is now on display at City Hall.
