James B. Hamilton, a former anatomy department chairman at the State University of New York and an expert on baldness, died Jan. 21 at the Bon Secours nursing home in Ellicott City. He was 80.
Dr. Hamilton, who chaired the anatomy department of SUNY's )) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn from 1950 until his retirement in 1977, moved to Ellicott City two years ago.
He was one of the first researchers to study the relationship between male hormones and life expectancy. He also did research about the causes of balding and coined the term "male pattern baldness."
