Fannie M. Deven Sold linens

Fannie Mercedes Deven, a former linen saleswoman at a Stewart & Co. department store, died of cancer Dec. 7 at Howard County General Hospital.

Mrs. Deven, who was 82 and lived on Hickory Ridge Road in Columbia, worked at the store on York Road from 1963 until it closed in 1983.

The former Fannie Mercedes Tonti was born in Midland, Pa., and came to Baltimore in 1948 with her husband, Eugene John Deven, a retired construction superintendent.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia Shaffer of the Allview Estates and Donna Jean Potter of Tullahoma, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered Dec. 10 at Our Lady's Center in Ellicott City.
