Mabel Morris Head Start volunteer

Mabel Morris, a volunteer in the early days of the Head Start program, died Jan. 2 at Meridian Long Green Nursing Center after a long illness. She was 72.

A native of Cambridge, Ohio, the former Mabel Dyer graduated from Cambridge Business School before moving to Washington, where she was a civilian U.S. Army employee during World War II.

She moved to Baltimore in 1946 and worked here with the U.S. Public Health Service for seven years. After leaving government service, she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a teacher's aide with Head Start in Baltimore. She was also active in the women's association of Faith Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Vernon B. Morris Jr.; and a daughter, Micki Morris-Blandin. Both are of Baltimore.

The family suggested donations to Faith Presbyterian Church, Loch Raven Boulevard and Woodbourne Avenue, Baltimore 21239.
