February 21, 1991

The Meade boys indoor track team failed to win a third straight 4A state indoor track championship Tuesday at the 5th Regiment Armory in Baltimore, finishing second to Eleanor Roosevelt of Prince George's County, 56-50.5.

The Meade girls also settled for second place behind Roosevelt, 67-44.

The Mustang boys notched 18 points in the pole vault, thanks to the 1-2 finish of brothers Jeff and Eric Miller.

"They (the Millers) can't do it all by themselves," said Meade coach Jay Cuthbert. "We needed some others to complement them. I thought we ran well, but we didn't run as well as we had in the last two meets (county and regional). Then again, it's hardto maintain that intensity for three weeks in a row.

"We expectedit to be a shootout (with Eleanor Roosevelt), and that's exactly what it was. We were a little disappointed that our boys came up short, but we were just ecstatic about our girls."
