Abortion: A matter of conscience?

It's your call

February 19, 1991

A majority of callers to SUNDIAL believes that doctors and other health-care workers should have the right to refuse to refer a woman for an abortion. A smaller majority believes abortion is an issue of religious freedom.

Of 789 callers to SUNDIAL yesterday, 515, or 65 percent, said doctors should have the right to refuse to refer a woman for an abortion, while 274 callers disagreed. On the issue of religious freedom, 475 of 784 callers, or 61 percent, said they believed that abortion was an issue of religious freedom, while 309 callers disagreed.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
