Blast preview

February 18, 1991|By Sandra McKee

* WHERE: The Arena.

* WHEN: Tonight, 7:05.

* OUTLOOK: The Blast (18-18) enters with new inspiration. From the beginning of the season coach Kenny Cooper has said he wished his team would stop measuring its performance by looking down in the standings. They were safely in second, so what was the worry?

But there is no longer any safe spot in the Eastern Division. When Tacoma (18-18) arrives here, it will be facing a team caught in a tight squeeze. Yesterday, Cleveland beat Kansas City to pull within a half-game of the Blast.

The Blast, which has gotten great play of late from Dale Mitchell, Billy Ronson, Tim Wittman and Mike Stankovic, then should be inspired to break Tacoma's hold on it. The Stars have won three of the four games the two have played this season. But Tacoma has lost two straight and six of its last 10. The Blast comes in off Saturday's 9-6 victory over Dallas.

About 4,000 tickets remain for tonight's game.
