Ripken doesn't need raise

It's your call

February 18, 1991

Sorry, Cal, but one $3 million-a-year player on the Orioles is enough this season.

So said Evening Sun readers and other respondents to this weekend's "It's Your Call," who were asked whether the Orioles should renegotiate Cal Ripken's contract so that he would make more than newcomer Glenn Davis.

Sixty-three percent (397) of the 627 responses said the Orioles should not renegotiate in light of Davis' $3.275 million contract. The other 37 percent (230) said the Orioles should renegotiate Ripken's contract, which expires in 1992, to keep him the club's highest paid player.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
