"I'm sick and tired of lawyer jokes," J. Michael McWilliams said recently. Soon he'll be in a good position to help change his profession's poor image. The American Bar Association's nominating committee has selected him as its president-elect. Nomination is tantamount to election in this, the nation's largest and most prestigious legal organization. So congratulations are in order to Mike McWilliams, the first Baltimore lawyer ever chosen to head the ABA. We wish him well in making his profession less the butt of jokes and more what he has long advocated that it become -- an agency of assistance to all who need it, regardless of means or status.
